Jafferji House

History Of Our Building

A Legacy of Heritage, Architecture, and Family Tradition

A Legacy of Elegance and Hospitality

Jafferji House stands as a symbol of dedication, resilience, and family enterprise. Parts of our building date back more than 150 years, showcasing exposed walls, graceful arches, and remarkable Fatimid-style Coptic architectural details that remain unique to this property.

Originally built with sandstone, the structure was admired for its craftsmanship and elegance long before becoming a boutique hotel. Once the cherished home of the Jafferji family, the building reflects generations of commitment, vision, and cultural pride.

In 1912, Walliji Dossaji completed the construction after purchasing the property. It later passed to Karimjee Jivanjee and, in 1945, to Hassan Bhai Jafferji, who arrived in Zanzibar from Anjaar, Kutch, India, in the early 1900s. Despite limited means, he acquired the home through instalments, valuing the trust placed in him as a lifelong honor.
