Javed Jafferji brings the art of photography to life by capturing moments on Zanzibar that inspires his interest. His search and interest to promote Zanzibar as a destination including the beauty and fashion of Tanzania, has taken him to different parts of East Africa and around the world. He has lived in Tanzania, Pakistan and the UK, where he studied Photography, Television and Filming at Paddington College and Salisbury College of Art & Design. The adventures and passion for East Africa’s beauty has given him the opportunity to publish several books on the historical stories of Zanzibar, architecture, culture, cuisine, fashion, beauty, the African wilderness and the beautiful hotels and beaches of Zanzibar. The visual photography seen on his books that he has published are his photographs that are born of a keen eye for the many moods of Zanzibar hospitality, architecture, fashion and design including the East African wilderness. Over the years Javed has achieved to make it his goal to promote Zanzibar’s thriving hospitality.

A Glimpse of the Restoration Phase
Parts of the building of Jafferji House & Spa, dates back over 150 years. You will see glimpses of the past in some of the large, exposed walls and arches in our common areas and most importantly the Fatimid style Coptic architecture arch work, seen only in this building. The restoration of this boutique hotel took three years of dedication and commitment to covert this home to its fully restored version as a luxury traditional boutique hotel. Jafferji House has a rich family history that has only enhanced the prestigious façade when it began its chapter in 2012. The hotel is clad with historic photographs of Zanzibar and East Africa. View the change of the restoration in this album, which gives our guests the opportunity to see the original structure of the building, which was built of sandstone has been admired for its architectural style, both, in its former life and now in its new incarnation as a traditional boutique hotel. The hotel has been restored in the same original structure maintaining its true heritage.
